Burry Port’s Hidden Gem? Our Dinner Had Us VERY Impressed… 👀

If you’re looking for a hearty homemade dinner in Burry Port, Wales, this place certainly caught our attention. From delicious, freshly prepared food to a few little errors along the way, our visit had plenty to talk about. The food was genuinely yummy, but was it enough to make this restaurant worth a visit? Here’s is my honest review.

The Drinks

We started off with a pint of Gower Gold, which came in at £4.10 which is fairly middle-of-the-road pricing for a pint these days. The pouring process was a little… unconventional, though. Instead of using another lager glass, a Lighthouse Lager glass was used, and the metal pouring tube was placed into the glass, which definitely didn’t make for the cleanest-looking pour. Some of the Gower Gold also had to be poured into another glass before being tipped back in.

It was pretty clear that the lovely lady serving us was still getting the hang of things, but honestly, that wasn’t a problem at all. She was really friendly, and we had a lovely conversation while she was getting the drink ready. So while the pint itself wasn’t the smoothest start, the friendly service definitely helped make up for it.

For the second pint, we went for Wrexham Lager, a German-style lager priced at the same £4.10 as the Gower Gold. Thankfully, this one was a much smoother experience, and the lager itself was really nice, crisp, enjoyable and exactly what you want from a pint. At £4.10, it felt like a pretty fair price too, especially considering the quality.

The Food

When it came to the food, there was a bit of a wait around 40 minutes before our meals arrived. I went for the turkey dinner with pigs in blankets and stuffing, which sounded like exactly the kind of hearty Sunday dinner I was after.

Unfortunately, the pigs in blankets and stuffing were missing when the meal first arrived, so we had to wait a little longer for those to be brought out. With five people dining, there also wasn’t quite enough vegetables for everyone, so we had to request some more.

One pleasant surprise was the cauliflower cheese. I’m not usually a fan, but honestly, it was gorgeous and I really enjoyed it. I’d even love to see something like mac and cheese included as an alternative or addition to the sides.

The main downside was the portion size. Even after getting extra vegetables, the portions weren’t the biggest, and I didn’t exactly leave feeling completely stuffed. That said, the food itself was tasty, and aside from the missing items and smaller portions, it wasn’t a bad dinner at all.

The Dessert

To finish things off, I went for the crème brûlée with shortbread and ice cream. The dessert itself was absolutely delicious, with the crème brûlée being a particular highlight. However, the ice cream didn’t arrive when we first asked for it, meaning we had to wait again for another part of the dessert to come out.

It was another small error in what had already been a slightly messy service experience, but once everything arrived, the food itself made up for it. The dessert was genuinely lovely and ended the meal on a high note.

Overall Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Overall, we had a really enjoyable meal, with the homemade food being the biggest highlight. There were quite a few little errors throughout the evening — missing items, extra waiting and some slightly messy service — but the friendly staff and genuinely delicious food helped make up for them. The portions could have been bigger, but for £4.10 pints and tasty food, we’d still consider it a worthwhile visit. 4/5 stars.
